Wolf Totem
I have been reading a book "Wolf Totem" these days. I have heard about it for a long time, and I finally have the opportunity to read it.
At first glance, I feel that this book is well written. Especially the part describing wolves feels the way man gets along with nature and the role of wolves on the grassland.
After careful reflection, some views are still very controversial. Wolf nature and sheep nature. It is true that each ethnic group has its own conditions and beliefs, but simply saying that the Mongolians are wolves and the Han people are sheep is not agreeable.
Every habit has its own reason, just like the wolf. In the book, Chen Zhen agrees with the wolf's unyielding nature and the wolf's unwavering nature, and thinks that he has insulted it. But when it comes to dogs, he thinks it's right to wag his tail and beg for mercy. So wolves should eat well, dogs should suffer and eat leftovers? Not to mention whether this is a manifestation of the evil nature of being afraid of the strong and bullying the weak, at least it avoids the view that dogs and wolves have the same roots. I don't know what to call this root? But why are they all branches of this root? Some are called "wolves" and some become dogs?
The answer to this question should be the origin of national individuality. For example, due to the long-term harsh living conditions of the Mongolian nation, it has formed a belligerent character. After all, the fittest survive. However, due to its long-term stability and prosperity, as well as thousands of years of Confucian education, the Han nation has formed a character that does not want to fight and is content with its own character.
The wolf has been away for a long time, and in order to survive, it can only preserve its wolf nature. What about dogs? How can you maintain your wolf nature by being trained for a long time, not having to be afraid, and having no worries about food and clothing?
I searched the Internet and found that there was endless debate about this book. Some have even been elevated to the level of national separatism.
Each has its own opinions, which is also what makes this book worth reading. If, according to some people, they are worried that this book will wash the brains of the entire nation and want to list it as a banned book. That really overestimates the book, and underestimates himself and others.
But I still hope that the entire nation can still have less bad qualities and more wolf-like qualities. At least dogs still know how to resist, but sheep can only be enslaved.
