Microsoft officially launched a new WPF/E product known as the "Flash Killer" and officially named it Silverlight.

Introduction to Silverlight:

Silverlight is a player software that can run in various browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari on Windows and Mac platforms. Silverlight files are less than 2MB in size, and like Flash, Silverlight also has development tools for designers and software developers.

Silverlight is based on the. NET Framework, which makes it easier for programmers to develop and provides high-speed media encoding, hardware acceleration, and support for Windows Server "Longhorn".
